दुर्गा सप्तसती के दूसरे अध्याय में देवताओं के सम्मिलित तेज से उतपन्न देवी की कथा है। इसी अध्याय में महिषासुर की सेना का वध हो गया। महालक्ष्मी को प्रसन्न करने वाले मध्यम चरित्र के 3 अध्यायों का यह पहला अध्याय है।
